The Duckling’s Room provides care for children aged from 3 months to 2 years, providing nurturing relationships and a stimulating and playful environment.
We provide a ‘home from home’ environment built around trusting relationships. We feel it is important for your child to have 1-1 time with their key person throughout the day. These strong relationships ensure your child feels safe and confident and ready to learn
Music and movement
In the Ducklings Room we ensure singing and song time is promoted throughout the day to support the children’s development in Communication and language, a prime area of development within the Early years foundation stage 2012.
A wide variety of music and movement experiences are offered to the children in the Duckling’s Room on a daily basis. These include: dancing to music from around the world, using ribbons and streamers, exploring the different sounds of musical instruments, songs with props and many more.
Treasure Baskets
We have a full range of Treasure Baskets. One of the children’s favourites is currently our natural materials collection. Treasure baskets have been proven to be beneficial for young children and their developmant and are really simple to create… Why not make one at home? For ideas please speak to a member of staff.
Activities
In the Ducklings Room we plan for the children’s interests whilst supporting their continuing development through each and every activity we carry out. These include: oppurtunities to get messy, exploring natural materials, using our imangination and many more. Very young children need to explore freely, feeling textures, such as, running paint through their fingers. It is not the end product that is important but the process experienced to get there.
Meal Times
Meal times in the Ducklings room are a time for children to socialise, not only with each other but with the practitioners too. An ideal oppurtunity for development of each child’s language and communication skills. The children have 3 meals a day and are offered a light snack in the afternoon
Sleep Time
Our ‘Nest’ provides the children in the Ducklings Room with a quiet area for rest and relaxation.
This room is seperate from the main room, however, they are joined. Whilst they are sleeping each child is checked individually every 10 minutes. The room also has an intercom link up with the main room.
Outdoors
Research tells us as practitioners, how important the outdoor environment is to children and their development. As a result of this we opened a purpose built ‘Sensory garden’ for our younger children. This allows them to explore in a natural, stimulating but safe environment. This early introduction into the natural world around them enables them to develop their senses whilst still playing and having fun.
Our garden also provides the children with a quiet area for relaxation where they can sit and have a drink whilst watching Farmer Tom on his tractor alongside the sheep and cows.
